Track of the Day: 'Flood'
Kate Cooper is normally one half of the Australian duo An Horse, but for her new project, Cooper, she's abandoning the anxious, tightly wound indie rock of her usual band for something a little more whimsical. "Flood" starts off slow and sparse, but like the torrential overflows she sings of, the song quickly builds to much more. Over galloping acoustic guitars and drums, Cooper stretches out simple vowel sounds into sing-alongs that make even the most despairing lyrics sound a little triumphant: "The silt and all the debris of my life / stirring up emotions from the deep / all these feelings I stuffed down I couldn't keep."
